Kara's First Christmas

Kara's first Christmas day was fairly anticlimactic, since we'd already done Christmas with both sets of grandparents and Santa didn't get very much for Kara this year.  On Christmas morning, we went to a neighbor's house for a Christmas brunch.  Other than that, it was just like any other day with a five-week old.

Patrick and Akila visit

Patrick and Akila stopped by to meet Kara a couple of days before Christmas. They also brought lunch and lasagna for Kara's bone-tired parents. Much appreciated! She was the much passed around focus of the visit, and we hope to see our friends again soon!

Hangin' with Uncle Trey

Uncle Trey and Grandma came up to visit Kara just before Christmas.  They took turns with the night shift while they were here, which was a great Christmas present for Kara's tired parents. As you can see in the pictures, Kara cleaned up this Christmas. Must be good to be the only grandchild on both sides.

Grammy and Gramps come down South

On December 8th, Grammy and Gramps came to visit and meet Kara.  They were very excited to meet the little girl, and she quickly had them tied around her little finger.  She is going to be one spoiled little baby.  Grammy and Gramps helped out a lot with Kara, taking the 2:00 am feeding.

The First Week Home

We took Kara home from the hospital on Sunday. She fell asleep on the ride home and looked so innocent in her pink blanket and cap that Grammy S. knitted for her. Babies are so deceptively cute...

On Wednesday of the following week, Grandpa H. and Great-Grandma B. came up for Thanksgiving and to meet Kara. Thanksgiving was very interesting with a newborn. We had to eat in shifts. But we love her. She's so pretty.

The Beginning

Everyone thought the little girl would come early. Grandma and Grandpa S. were thinking that Kara might be a Halloween Baby. Grandma H. came up a week before the due date (on November 2nd) to help Lee Ann get the house ready and to make sure she’d be here for the birth. Well, the due date came and went (November 8th) and no baby.

Kara had decided that she just wasn’t going to come on her own, so Lee Ann, Tyler, and Grandma H. reported to Greer Memorial hospital early in the morning on Friday, November 20th for an induction. Things progressed slowly until the doctor broke Lee Ann's water around noon. After that, there was no stopping Kara. Lee Ann started pushing around 4:00 pm, and Kara was born at 4:50 pm EST. Kara was a pretty small baby (especially for being 12 days late!) weighing in at 7 pounds, 0 oz and measuring 19 1/4 inches long. Everyone thought she looked just like her daddy with the dark hair, but we think she's much, much prettier...
